Research Capacity-Building Programme on Innovation & Sustainability in Southeast Asia featuring a focused research writing workshop. — For Early Career Researchers from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam
This project is supported by the British Academy and implemented in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University; Chula Unisearch, Chulalongkorn University; the College of Population Studies, and the Labour Research and Coordination Research Unit at the College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University. Its primary objective is to strengthen research capacity and foster collaboration among early career researchers in Southeast Asia.
The subthemes include, but are not limited to, innovation and technological transformation, sustainable development and climate resilience, labour, decent work and economic inclusion, migration, ageing, and social equity.

This initiative will support 30 early career researchers in developing high-quality manuscripts and gaining visibility in global academic conversations.
Research Themes
Applicants should align their proposed paper with one of the following core themes:
1.Innovation and Technological Transformation
Innovation for sustainable development, including digital transformation, green technologies, circular economies, and local policy solutions.
2.Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience
Sustainability challenges linked to urbanisation, industrialisation, and climate change, with emphasis on locally driven green transitions
3.Labour, Decent Work, and Economic Inclusion
Decent work, informal labour, gender disparities, and the impact of innovation and green policies on economic resilience.
4.Migration, Ageing, and Social Equity
How demographic shifts—like migration and ageing—affect labour markets, welfare systems, and inclusive policy design.
Programme Overview
The programme consists of three main phases:
| 1.Face-to-Face Workshop in Bangkok
Wednesday 27 – Friday 29 August 2025

A 3-day, hands-on writing workshop held in Bangkok. Participants will work with experienced mentors and journal editors to refine their research and writing, receive peer feedback, and build lasting research networks.
Scholarship support includes:
• Up to £180 (approx. 7,800 THB) for international flight reimbursement (economy class; actual cost will be reimbursed up to the maximum amount upon submission of receipts)
• Up to £80 (approx. 3,400 THB) for domestic (within Thailand) flight reimbursement (economy class; actual cost will be reimbursed up to the maximum amount upon submission of receipts)
• Accommodation: Centrally booked for 3 nights (Tuesday 27 – Friday 29 August). Participants are expected to arrive by the morning of Tuesday, 27 August. Rooms will be arranged as twin sharing, with random same-gender pairings. Applicants who are accepted may also request to share a room with a preferred roommate. (Including round-trip taxi fare between the airport and the workshop venue in Thailand)
Note
: Participants are responsible for arranging and covering the cost of visas, travel insurance, and any other personal or incidental expenses.
| 2.Ongoing Virtual Support (September 2025 – December 2026)
After the Bangkok workshop, participants will continue to develop their manuscripts through structured online activities, with the goal of submitting to a relevant international journal by December 2026.
You will be expected to participate in:
• Monthly Virtual Writing Clinics – Guided sessions focused on specific sections of your manuscript, held during three cycles: September–December 2025, January–May 2026, and June–August 2026.
• One-on-One Mentorship – tailored feedback from senior academics
• Targeted Submission Support – including peer review simulations and editorial guidance
| 3.Drafting and Preparing Present Research Showcase (October 2026)
Virtual Research Showcase – share your research (scheduled in October 2026)
| Participant Commitments
Applicants must:
• Attend the full 3-day Bangkok workshop (27–29 August 2025)
• Engage in all post-workshop online sessions and mentorship activities
• Submit a working abstract or draft paper with their application
• Develop and submit a full manuscript for journal submission by December 2026
• A supporting letter from a supervisor or an advisor

2. การพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนและการรับมือกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ
ความท้าทายของความยั่งยืนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการขยายตัวของเมือง อุตสาหกรรม และการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ โดยเน้นการเปลี่ยนผ่านสู่สีเขียวที่ขับเคลื่อนโดยท้องถิ่น

การฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ 3 วัน ที่จัดขึ้นในกรุงเทพฯ ผู้เข้าร่วมจะได้ทำงานร่วมกับพี่เลี้ยงผู้มีประสบการณ์ และบรรณาธิการวารสารวิชาการ เพื่อพัฒนางานวิจัย รับข้อเสนอแนะจากเพื่อนร่วมโครงการ และสร้างเครือข่ายทางวิชาการระยะยาว
การสนับสนุนทุนการศึกษา ประกอบด้วย:
• ค่าตั๋วเครื่องบินระหว่างประเทศ (ชั้นประหยัด) คืนเงินตามค่าใช้จ่ายจริงไม่เกิน £180 (ประมาณ 7,800 บาท)
• ค่าตั๋วเครื่องบินภายในประเทศ (เฉพาะในประเทศไทย ชั้นประหยัด) คืนเงินตามค่าใช้จ่ายจริงไม่เกิน £80 (ประมาณ 3,400 บาท)
• ที่พักรวม 3 คืน (วันอังคารที่ 27 – วันศุกร์ที่ 29 สิงหาคม) โดยจัดให้เข้าพักแบบแชร์ห้องคู่ (เพศเดียวกันแบบสุ่ม) ผู้ได้รับคัดเลือกสามารถแจ้งชื่อเพื่อนร่วมห้องที่ต้องการได้ รวมถึงค่ารถแท็กซี่รับ-ส่งระหว่างสนามบินและสถานที่จัดเวิร์กชอปในไทย
หมายเหตุ: ผู้เข้าร่วมต้องรับผิดชอบค่าใช้จ่ายในการขอวีซ่า ประกันการเดินทาง และค่าใช้จ่ายส่วนตัวอื่น ๆ ด้วยตนเอง
| 2. การสนับสนุนออนไลน์ต่อเนื่อง (ระหว่างเดือน กันยายน 2568 ถึงเดือนธันวาคม 2569)
หลังจากเวิร์กชอปในกรุงเทพฯ ผู้เข้าร่วมจะพัฒนาบทความวิจัยอย่างต่อเนื่องผ่านกิจกรรมออนไลน์ เพื่อให้สามารถส่งบทความเข้าสู่วารสารวิชาการระดับนานาชาติภายในเดือนธันวาคม 2569

• คลินิกเขียนบทความออนไลน์รายเดือน – มีหัวข้อเฉพาะแต่ละช่วงของบทความ จัดใน 3 รอบ: ก.ย.–ธ.ค. 2568, ม.ค.–พ.ค. 2569, และ มิ.ย.–ส.ค. 2569
• การให้คำปรึกษาแบบตัวต่อตัว – รับคำแนะนำรายบุคคลจากอาจารย์อาวุโส
• การสนับสนุนการส่งบทความ – รวมถึงการจำลองการ peer review และคำแนะนำจากบรรณาธิการ
| 3. การเตรียมนำเสนองานวิจัย (ช่วงเดือนตุลาคม 2569)
•งานนำเสนอผลงานวิจัยออนไลน์ – นำเสนองานวิจัยของคุณต่อสาธารณะ (กำหนดจัดในเดือนตุลาคม 2569)
